Somatic Therapy and Trauma Healing

1:1 Therapy

Working Together

Individual Somatic Experiencing therapy for complex trauma and nervous system dysregulation.

Somatic Experiencing (SE) is a therapeutic approach focused on gently reconnecting with the body’s sensations, in order to ease the impacts of stress, anxiety, and trauma stored within the nervous system. It supports natural healing by integrating the mind, body, and emotions without relying solely on cognitive processing. There is no requirement to recount traumatic events if this is not something you wish to do, we can still do the trauma processing pieces without the talking component. This is what makes SE so beautiful.

I am highly qualified and specialised to support people with complex trauma presentations with many of my clients holding multiple diagnoses and chronic health conditions. Typically clients have attempted multiple styles of cognitive therapy before coming to me. Although I am specialised to work with trauma and the nervous system, anybody is welcome to my practice if willing to explore their experiences in an embodied approach. This is typically long term work and will be an investment in yourself that you will be grateful for, regardless of the time we have together.

If you are unsure I highly recommend you read or listen to Peter Levine’s book ‘Waking the tiger’ or ‘In an Unspoken Voice’.

What to Expect

In our sessions, we won’t just talk about your trauma – we’ll work with how it lives in your nervous system.

This includes:

  • Tracking physical sensations and bodily responses
  • Noticing your nervous system’s patterns of activation and shutdown
  • Gentle guided practices to help your body release what it’s been holding
  • Building capacity to feel without becoming overwhelmed

This isn’t passive therapy. I won’t just nod and listen. I’ll challenge you to go into the uncomfortable places – the feelings you’ve been avoiding, the patterns you’ve been running from. But you’ll be deeply held and supported throughout. It will feel completely different to talking therapy.

Sessions are structured yet responsive to what’s alive in your system each week. Some sessions might feel quiet and gentle. Others might bring up intense emotion or physical sensation. Both are part of the process.

Who This Is For

This work is especially helpful if:

  • You’ve tried talk therapy but it hasn’t created lasting change in how you feel or function
  • You experience chronic physical symptoms (pain, IBS, fatigue, migraines) that medical tests can’t fully explain
  • You swing between anxiety/overwhelm and numbness/shutdown
  • You look fine on the outside but feel broken on the inside
  • You recognise your difficulties live in your nervous system, not just your thoughts
  • You’re ready for challenging work and willing to feel uncomfortable in service of healing

What Clients Say

“After 5 years of traditional therapy, I thought I’d tried everything. Working with Katharine showed me I’d been missing the most important piece – my body. The chronic pain I’d had for years started shifting and I learnt about it from a different lens, one that helped me befriend it, understand it, support it. I’ve learnt so much about myself and where my pain has come from, invaluable, life-saving.”
— Client EW, Hertfordshire

“Katharine doesn’t just nod and listen. She challenges you in a way that feels scary but safe. It’s not been easy but I feel different somehow, I can’t describe it, it is a sense within me.”
— Online Client, DT
